Downtown Crested Butte
If you visit Crested Butte in the winter, chances are you are coming to ski. In this case, you’ll want to look for something in the Mt. Crested Butte area. Downtown is great for summers, shopping, and restaurants; but there actually aren’t nearly as many options of hotel in downtown Crested Butte.
You’ll find a bed and breakfast, a couple rentals, and one or two old lodges.
Mt. Crested Butte
Mt. Crested Butte is just a short drive from downtown Crested Butte. This is the mountain village and where access to the ski resort is.
Mt. Crested Butte is also home to the many hotels and condos, giving you a nice variety to choose from.

Condo Rental – Where to stay in Crested Butte for families
2 bedroom (+loft bedroom with 2 beds) / 2 bath
I have to start with this condo, as this is where we stayed and really enjoyed it.
This condo is perfect for families. It has 2 bedrooms plus a loft with two twin beds. That means no one in our family had to sleep on a couch (yay!)
The lay out was unique: you walk in on the upper floor and have two bedrooms and a bathroom.
Go up the stairs to the loft with two twin beds. Or go down the stairs to the main area with a full kitchen, full bathroom, and living area.
View at sunset at the outdoor bar area, no filter
Here’s what we loved about this condo:
The condo has gone through interior updates, giving it kind of a trendy-loft vibe on the main floor.
We especially loved the outdoor bar you could sit at each morning for fresh air. We enjoyed a sunset against the mountain across the way sitting here one night, and it was magical!
We also loved the little touches the owners left: cute notes welcoming you, hair towels (I have never stayed somewhere that give you hair towels!), local suggestions of things to do, etc.
While there is no pool at this complex, there is a hot tub just a few steps away from this unit.
The only caution I have with this condo is the stairs. They seemed a little steep/tricky, so I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone bringing older friends/family who have a hard time with stairs. My kids did just fine with them, though.

Making a good rental choice:
I have heard stories one-after-another about rental nightmares (hosts canceling, hosts blaming tenants for damages that didn’t occur, hosts asking for more money, hosts not responding, etc). You really have to be careful these days and it’s really important to pick a rental with a good track record.
For that reason, I was incredibly happy we had such a great host here. She reached out right away to see if she could help with any suggestions. She provides her phone number and is very responsive to texting or any questions. We couldn’t have been happier with our experience!
