We are a family that loves to travel. Even before we had kids and even before we were married, I always loved learning about culture and far away places.

When we became pregnant with our first child, we could not agree on a name… until we came up with a name that was inspired by looking at a map. Coincidentally, that name was also in my family tree, so it held even more meaning. (Sorry, for my kids’ privacy I don’t share names, but this is a true story!)

As we went on to have 2, 3, and 4 kids, we took a similar approach of travel related baby names. Not necessarily looking at a map, but taking notice when we traveled of beautiful things that stood out, something solid, different cities, or even a name related to culture.

Our third child has a typical name that isn’t too common, but it’s because we shortened what would have been an Italian-inspired term into a more common name in the U.S.

All to say, we totally get that you are also wanting a solid, travel inspired name for kids on your next child. There are some really beautiful and strong names that are inspired from around the world.

Check out the baby name generator at the end of this post for names from around the world, inspired by cities, landmarks, and culture.

First, we’ll explore different regions of the world that offer stunning names for girls and strong, bold names for boys.

South America is bold, colorful, and full of rhythm, and its names reflect that beautifully. South America was my first out-of-country adventure and I fell in love with the culture and feel.

Girls might suit names like Valeria, Flora, or Rosario, which are soft, melodic, and full of passion.

For boys, names like Rio, Lima, or Quito are short, punchy, and bursting with personality, just like this beautiful continent.
