Is the Get Out Pass Worth it? Here’s What We Did for Free in Colorado

If you’ve ever looked for ways to enjoy Colorado’s top attractions without spending a fortune, you’ve probably come across the Get Out Pass. We decided to try it out for ourselves—and after a year of using it, we’ve visited everything from unique animal encounters to trampoline parks… all for free with the pass. But is the Get Out Pass worth it, really?

In this post, I’ll walk you through the places we visited using our Colorado Get Out Pass, how much we saved, and whether I think it’s a smart investment for families, adventure seekers, or anyone looking to explore more without breaking the bank.

Deciding on the Get Out Pass Colorado

Christmas was coming and the last thing we wanted to do was buy a million more toys that were going to get played with for a day and then collect dust.

Sound familiar?

We hopped on the experiences-not-things wagon but were having a hard time deciding what to get. If we get a museum pass, how many times will we really go? If we get a zoo pass, will the kids want to go over and over?

That’s when we stumbled on the Get Out Pass. It had a variety of activities we could try out. While they typically only allow for one visit per pass, the activities are scattered around the state, so you probably wouldn’t go to the same place more than once.

There were enough activities close by that we decided to give it a try.

How does it work?

The Get Out Pass is similar to a City Pass. The difference? You get a whole year from the time of purchase to use it. The City Pass has bigger names and activities on it, though not as many, and it’s usually good for 7 days from when you activate it.

The City Pass is great for visitors on limited time, in one city.

The Get Out Pass is great for locals (or visitors) who need more time to visit more day-to-day locations.

Once you purchase your pass, you’ll have 1 year to visit the locations listed. When you arrive at the venue, pull up the pass (I use the app) and find the activity. Check off the people you’d like to use the pass for and show the venue. They’ll hit redeem, and you’ll be good to go!

The Cost of the Get Out Pass

If you go to their website, the pass is noted as being $99.95. I’ve been to the website plenty of times and I’ve never actually seen it that price though, as it’s usually slashed out and replaced with a much lower fee.

I often see it around $40, which as you’re about to see, is a pretty awesome deal.

While the pass has many, many places available on it, here’s where we personally went.

Where We Visited

Note that prices listed below represent the price at the time we visited. Even if they change, I’ll keep them listed as they are below so you can see how much we saved with the Get Out Pass Colorado at that time!

Denver Downtown Aquarium

Price: $29 adult / $23 child
Would have cost our family $150

3 kids looking through a glass wall into a tank of fish and rock at the Denver Aquarium

The Denver Downtown Aquarium is pretty cool. It’s a great place when you have a few days in Denver to take kids. From walking through a tunnel-style aquarium to viewing the tiger in the jungle area, kids love this place.

You can even try to time it for when the mermaids are swimming!

At the end, you’ll get to have an encounter with stingrays and feel them.

Slick City

Price: $27
Would have cost us $162

two steep yellow indoor slides. A child is launching off the end of one onto a black mat at Slick City Denver

We combined a day at the Aquarium with Slick City since it wasn’t terribly far away.

If you haven’t been to Slick City, just know that the kids will love it… and you probably will too.

Slick City is a giant, indoor slide playground. But it’s not your typical slides. You’ll have drops, spins, and be flying through the air onto safe mats on some of the slides.

Choose from easy-breezy slides or go for the free fall slide that launches you at the end.

What’s great about having the Get Out Pass here is that I would typically pay for the kids and then just supervise. But since us adults had the pass too, we figured we might as well join the fun.

And we had so much fun! It was nice to be a kid again and not have to pay. (Well, we had to buy socks).

US Olympic and Paralympic Training Center

Price: $16 adult / $12 ages 12 and under
Would have cost us $84

a row of indoor shooting lanes at the US Olympic and paralympic training center A woman stands with her gun pointed at a target

The Training Center was a neat experience to bring the kids to. It’s a great place to get inspired and really appreciate what Olympians go through to try at a chance at the Olympics.

The Training Center is in Colorado Springs. It’s a small campus with different buildings for athletes to train in. One building was weightlifting, one was the pool, one for wrestling, one for shooting, and a building with a large gymnasium for gymnastics and fencing.

We were there during the residents’ break so it was pretty empty, but we still saw a few people training around campus.

You’ll get your own pass on a lanyard and a guide to walk you through campus and teach you about life and training at the center.

US Olympic and Paralympic Museum

Price: $30 adult / $17 ages 12 and under
Would have cost us $141

The US Olympic and Paralympic Museum is located in Colorado Springs. You can actually see the giant building off the highway.

Here you’ll learn about past and present Olympians and just how impressive they are. My kids favorite part was the area where you can race virtual Olympians (pictured above). Then you can go into an area with simulators for different sports, like skiing down a run or bobsledding.

Beyond that, you can witness medals and torches of all the past olympics and watch a cool movie at the end.

This is one of the most popular attractions to visit in Colorado Springs, and getting it on the Get Out Pass is a pretty cool perk.

Gators Reptile Park

Price: $30 adult / $15 ages 6-15
Would have cost $120

a girl with her face blurred out holding a baby alligator in front of a dry grass manufactured backdrop at the Gator Park in Colorado

We decided to go down to Great Sand Dunes National Park during one of our long weekends of school being off. Right down the road from the park is the Colorado Gator and Reptile Park. And guess what? It was on the pass!

We’d heard of this gator park in the past and thought it would be cool to visit, but actually weren’t sure how cool it would be.

This time around, we decided to go ahead and visit since we wouldn’t have to pay anything.

It was actually really cool and I recommend this place whether you have a pass or not.

I thought we would just walk past an area with some gators and be done. But it’s so much more.

There are a few indoor areas filled with reptiles, snakes, turtle, and even a baby gator that the staff guides you into safely holding. That was a highlight for the kids.

Beyond that, you do walk through some outdoor areas with gators, but there are so many gators that it’s incredible.

We were even able to see Morris just a month or two before he passed away at over 80 years old. Morris had appeared in many movies and TV shows for 30 years before retiring to the Gator Park.

Main Event

Price: $8 + $10 game card
Would have cost $72 (only some of us went)

a boy in a white shirt at a bowling alley. He's just let go of a red bowling ball heading down the lane

I had never been to Main Event before, but my daughter was at a camp in Colorado Springs for the day, so we had a few hours to kill. I thought, let’s look at the Get Out Pass!

Sure enough, there was plenty to do in the area still beyond the Olympic centers we had already visited.

We went to Main Event where the pass offers 1 free game of bowling (we did have to rent shoes, though). After completing our game, we went over to the arcade where each person got $10 in credits to use on games.

This was a great way to use up a couple hours and a fun thing to do with the kids during the summer.

Sky Zone

Price: $25
Would have cost $75 (3 jumped this time)

a large open area with lots of rectangular trampolines filling the space on the floor. A couple kids are jumping

This trampoline park in Colorado Springs was also on the Get Out Pass, giving us another activity while we were hanging out.

Luckily, we already had Sky Zone socks, so we didn’t owe anything when we came.

Sky Zone is a great place for kids to get some energy out and really work up a sweat. I joined in one time we went and I actually felt pretty sore after jumping here. I forgot how much energy it takes since I was a kid the last time I jumped on a trampoline!

(I didn’t snag pictures at this particular location, so the picture above is from another Sky Zone.)

The Get Out Pass Cost Savings

I’ve added up the cost of each location based on admission by age and by the number of people that went (we didn’t all go to each of them). So this is an honest price comparison.

We spend $150 on the Get Out Pass because we got a sweet Black Friday deal. That’s $25 per person, as we are a family of 6.

From everything listed above, I would have paid $804 without the Get Out Pass. Instead, I paid $150.

And we still have a few months to use it for many more activities (we already have a couple planned).

Other Notable Places on the Get Out Pass- Colorado

The Aquarium, Slick City, and Olympic training center and museum are some of the highlights on the pass.

But beyond that, we are currently able to go to:

  • Lakeside Amusement Park
  • Another Main Event Location
  • A few mini golf places
  • PS5/Xbox Game Play Center
  • Clyfford Still Museum
  • A few climbing gyms
  • Roller Skating
  • Monkey Business / Little Gym locations
  • Batting Cage
  • Baseball Tickets in Colorado Springs

And many more that I won’t list. There even are a few places to take lessons like soccer, ice skating, or swim.

*Note that deals/venues do occasionally change on the pass, this is just what’s available now and a great sampler of what is often on.

The Down Side

While I don’t have much to complain about, there is probably one thing you should realize with the pass that I’ve already briefly mentioned.

Make sure to read the text on each offer. While most offers come in completely free on the pass, some mention you’ll have to pay for socks, or pay for climbing equipment, or pay for shoe rental.

These costs are minimal compared to the value you get overall with the pass, but it’s something to be aware of.

Is the Get Out Pass Worth It?

The Get Out Pass has been SO worth it for our family. From adding in fun activities on days off to finding fun things to do when we’re out and about, this pass has been very exciting to use.

For the great Black Friday price we got, it paid itself off just with a visit to the aquarium. But even if you get the $40+ price, it still pays for itself with just a couple activities.

I love the Get Out Pass because it’s gotten us out to spend some quality family time on activities we wouldn’t normally do. It’s also enhanced some trips we’ve done to add more fun.

We have already talked about getting the Get Out Pass again next year as it’s been such a great addition.

Honestly, I don’t often take my kids to fun attraction places because they are just so expensive. But with the Get Out Pass, we have visited (and plan to visit) a lot of different venues to have some family-fun time.
