We just spent our last trip at Grand Tetons and had the same problem. In fact, we’ve canceled two past trips to Grand Teton because when it came down to it, I felt like it was too expensive.

But this time around, we were determined to go. And we actually found some cheap places to stay near Grand Teton that were low enough that we didn’t end up canceling this time!

So I’m here to show you the more affordable options and cheap hotels near Grand Teton so your family can focus more on exploring and less on emptying your wallet. Each of these showed me under $500 per night during in-season times, which for Teton, is a deal.

Here are the best places to stay near Grand Teton that are on the more-affordable side!

Cheap Hotels IN Grand Teton National Park

There are many places to stay INSIDE the National Park, but here are two that are more reasonable than others. Reservations can be made 1 year ahead, and I recommend booking ASAP as they book quickly.

Colter Bay Village

When looking up all the lodges, I found that Colter Bay was the most affordable. My findings showed me a stay costing $299 per night. This is a GREAT price for being right in the park.

The downside is that you need your trip planned far in advance as they book up quickly and far out. The great thing is that some cabins can sleep up to 6 people if you request a rollaway.

Colter Bay also offers tent cabins. These sturdy, large tents provide 2 sets of pull-down twin bunks. You can also grab 2 cots in order to sleep up to 6 people. The downside here is you have to bring your own linens and pillows (unless you want to chance one being available for rent at the desk). Not ideal if you’re flying into town.

The great thing about staying in Colter Bay is that you’ll have easy access to the general store, visitor center, laundry, and a few restaurants.

The cabins and tents at Colter Bay are available seasonally. It is located on the northwestern part of the park.

Headwaters Lodge

Headwaters Lodge offers rooms in a lodge or in cabins. While the cabins look rustic on the outside, they offer a pretty standard hotel room feel on the inside.

Pricing when I check started around $354 per night for the double queen room. This is a great price for cutting down a ton of driving into the park.

The cabins are all a short walk from the lodge, where you can also find a restaurant and general store.

Headwaters is different because it is the starting point for many activities, such as horseback riding, fly-fishing, and hiking. Guests can also enjoy guided programs to learn about the area or even make some s’mores.

Headwaters is located on the northern part of the park and it is open seasonally.

Affordable Places to stay Near Grand Tetons

While we all have different ideas of what “affordable” means, I’m using it relative to what much of the lodging in the area is. While many beautiful places can be booked for $800+ per night, that is not our budget.

I think people should still be able to see these beautiful parks without having to pay outrageous prices. I’m guessing you think that, too, and that’s why you’re here.

So here are some great places to stay that are under $500 per night on average. Of course, know that pricing is always changing.

1. Sleepy J Cabins

Distance from Grand Teton: 50 miles
Drive Time: 1 hour 13 minutes
Price when found: $130

Best for: Families wanting a little kitchen and more space than a hotel room

We actually had Sleepy J Cabins booked and later changed our itinerary and they weren’t available on our new days. Which I was bummed about, because these were not only affordable, but could sleep our family of 6 in one unit.

Sleep J Cabins have a little kitchen in them (giving you the option to make your own meals and save more money). You can choose from smaller 450 square foot cabins that sleeps 4 or 600 square foot cabins with 2 bedrooms that sleep up to 6.

The resort is located in Swan Valley, Idaho. While the town isn’t huge, it does have its own general store just down the road.

2. Teton Peaks Resort

Distance from Grand Teton: 46 miles
Drive Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Price when found: $171

Best For: Needing more than a hotel room, but not quite a condo

Teton Peaks Resort is another place like Sleepy J in that they offer smaller cabins/tiny homes. You can also choose to book a hotel room.

Rooms come with a microwave and mini fridge. While most options sleep 3-4, you can book the tiny homes or deluxe cabin to sleep up to 6.

Past guests loved the clean and modern feel, and really appreciated a little coffee shop on site.

Teton Peaks Resort is located in Tetonia, Idaho. Tetonia is larger than Swan Valley, with plenty of restaurants to choose from. It’s located west of the park into Idaho, and then north up highway 33, past Driggs.

3. Super 8 in Driggs

Distance from Grand Teton: 39 miles
Drive Time: 1 hour
Price when found: $203

Best For: Lowest price for hotel and breakfast!

If you prefer a traditional hotel, the Super 8 in Driggs is one of the most affordable hotels near Grand Teton. Yes, it’s a little drive to get from Driggs to Grand Teton, but the drive isn’t terrible.

The best thing about Super 8 in Driggs is that is comes with free breakfast and an indoor pool. This is all my kids need for a successful hotel stay.

Besides that, it’s a highly rated hotel that guests appreciated the great service and cleanliness at.

Super 8 can sleep 4 to 6 people in one room. The downside is that persons #5 and #6 get a sofa bed. We usually end up doing sofa beds, but have recently gotten a easy-pump blow up mattress to add to the pull-out for comfort. It compacts really small when you deflate it.

*While service animals are welcome, pets are not.

small condo in Driggs Idaho. This affordable place to stay near Grand Teton has a family room with a couch to the right, wooden coffee table in front of that, a round dining table for four on the carpeted area. A kitchen is in the back with 3 stools at the counter, wooden cabinets, a small fridge and microwave behind the counter

4. Driggs, ID Rental- Cheapest Place to Stay near Teton!

Distance from Grand Teton: 38 miles
Drive Time: 1 hour
Price when found: $103

Best For: Those needing the cheapest place possible

For a great, cheap place to stay near Grand Teton, check out the many rentals in Driggs, ID. This little town has whatever you could need, but is small and an easy drive into the national park.

This particular rental is the one we stayed in. It was nice to be able to have more space when we unpacked our bags and have places to sit and relax.

A little anecdote: The night before we left I was wondering why I hadn’t gotten check-in info for the place we had booked. I logged on and saw the reservation was for the following year! In my panic, I looked for a new place to stay and stumbled upon this condo. Not only was it available, but it was a cheap place to stay near Grand Teton at the last minute!

So, we stayed as the first VRBO guests and were so grateful when it was a cute, clean little place. There are two full beds in one bedroom and a pull out sofa for 2 kids. There’s also a hot tub right outside the building.

At only about an hour or so from the park, it worked great.

If you really want a cheap rental near Grand Teton that doesn’t feel cheap, this is it. It’s especially great if you’re visiting the park for 2 or 3 days as the cost won’t add up too quickly.

It’s probably as cheap as it is because it is a newer listing on VRBO, but even as it gets more guests I’m guessing the price will stay reasonable.

Driggs offers many rental options for very reasonable prices. Check out all that Driggs offers here.

5. The Jackson SouthTown

Distance from Grand Teton: 7 miles
Drive Time: 12 minutes
Price when found: $359

Best For: Feeling luxury at a budget price

Located just a couple miles from the center of Jackson, The Jackson SouthTown is perfect for those that want to be close to the park without the posh $1,000 price tag of Jackson.

I checked a couple dates for the hotel to make sure it was consistently under $500. I found anywhere from $359 to $415 nightly. I even found it for $305, but that was during winter months (great if you are there to ski), so I didn’t count it as most people visit Grand Teton in the summer.

The Jackson SouthTown may look a little older on the outside, but the inside is updated with sleek designs. Kids will love the outdoor pool (seasonal) and it’s always convenient having a fridge and microwave and some rooms have small kitchens.

Book a room with 2 sets of twin bunks or 1 set of full bunks, or a standard bed. The downside? One room can only fit up to 4, so it may not work for larger families unless you book two rooms.

Guests have loved the hotel for being comfortable and conveniently close to everything. What use to be a Motel 6 is now an upgraded, affordable place to stay near Grand Teton.

*Note: Because of the great location, this place books quickly! Book as far ahead as you can.

This older hotel is a great price since it puts you right in Jackson, Wyoming. Guests love the helpful, friendly staff.

The best part of this hotel is its location. You’ll be just a few minutes walk from Town Square (the antler arches) and a few minutes from the Elk Refuge and the national park.

Golden Eagle even offers a local shuttle to help you get around to shops and restaurants in Jackson.

While it might not be anything fancy, you’ll get a great price for one of the most affordable hotels in Jackson.

Another great, relatively cheap hotel in Jackson is the 49er Inn. This is located right in Jackson and is great for families.

Antler Inn is another great option for cheap hotels in Jackson. Without spending $500+, you can get a room here that sleeps up to 6 without a sofa bed! Try and snag the King + 2 double beds room if you need that extra sleeping space.

While you won’t get breakfast or a pool here, there is a hot tub to relax in after a day of hiking. Rooms have A/C and a mini fridge for convenience. And while they don’t serve a full breakfast (just small coffee bar), you are within a few blocks of restaurants and coffee shops.

If you want to visit the famous antler arches, you’re just a block away from Town Square.

Honorable Mentions- affordable lodging near Teton

These next one is right around the $500 mark, but nice enough that it’s worth a mention.

Rustic Inn

Distance from Grand Teton: 5 miles
Drive Time: 8 minutes
Price when found: $509

Rustic Inn is right on the border of falling in that “affordable” category. I found some dates in September right around $500, but if you go into October prices dropped dramatically (down to even $279). Prices vary, so if you can go right before busy season or a little bit after, you can find better prices.

Rustic Inn is a beautiful place with a classic Jackson Hole feeling. You’ll get a breakfast buffet and outdoor pool with your stay at this luxurious resort. The lodge feel really adds to your vacation getaway, sweeping you away to the mountains.

As this is located in Jackson, it also books quickly!
