How to Start a Blog (the Right Way!)

Have you been thinking about starting a blog, but didn’t know where to begin? I have the best resource for how to start a blog the right way!

Let’s Jet, Kids! uses affiliate links.  As an Amazon (and other networks) Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.  It is no extra cost to you.

I’ve started two other blogs before this one. And each one got NO.WHERE. I had no idea how to handle the technical side of it. After forever of figuring that out, I had no idea how to get the word out. I didn’t know what affiliate marketing was. I didn’t know about ads. I didn’t know a lot of the simple legal needs, design, or anything. So those blogs went nowhere.

But after more time passed, I realized I still really wanted to start a blog. So I decided I would, and I would do what I could to make sure I did it right so that I wouldn’t give up…again.

Luckily, I had seen some ads from this awesome couple (Pete and Heather, whom I do not know nor had ever heard of) who run their own blog and have been doing it for years. Successfully.

I want to share that resource with you. Because it’s that awesome.

They have so many resources to pick from. You can use free resources as a quick start. Or you can invest a little and get every possible thing you need to know about starting a blog.

Top Recommendations of Blogging Courses I’ve Done

I started with the Start a Blogging Business 5 Day Course. This is free, and contained 5 great, detailed guidelines for putting that dream onto paper.

Then I did the WP Fast Launch course, which is a step-by-step of how to set up your blog with WordPress. And I do mean step-by-step. It made the technical side SO easy. So many times during the course I thought (and said aloud to anyone in the room) “I would have NO idea how to do any of this, or that I even NEEDED to!” One of the best parts here is that if you participate in the WP Fast Launch Course, you get access to a private group where a WordPress Tech guru answers any and all questions you have about WordPress. This has been a total lifesaver.

Blogging Blastoff- The Whole Package

I finished by doing their Blogging Blastoff Course. I would say this was the icing on the cake, but really, this was the whole buffet. This was a 4-week program LOADED with information about

  • How to write posts
  • How to use images
  • Where to get images
  • What to be careful of or what to just not do as a blogger to stay out of trouble
  • How to use social media
  • How to get traffic
  • What legal forms you need
  • How to use affiliates
  • How to pitch for sponsored posts
  • How to get an email subscription set up
  • And SO. MUCH. MORE.

It was all laid out in a very organized fashion. I refer to this course all the time still. You can do it at your own pace or do it week by week…and then refer back to it when you’re done!

While Blogging Blastoff is the bigger investment, and I was nervous to invest anything, it was well worth it. I’m glad I did this course and have no regrets about it. I got way more out of it than I even expected, and I expected a lot!

***At the time of writing this article (Sep. 2020), they have a discount on the course right now. Oh, and you have 30 days from purchase to get a refund if you don’t like it, which I’m pretty sure will not be the case. That’s how good it is. I didn’t even consider wanting my money back 30 days into it.

Basically Blogging Blastoff gave me a lot of confidence when it came to blogging. I feel well equipped to make it happen and keep at it this time.

Other Helpful Courses

Pete and Heather offer so many courses that are specific to exactly what you are looking for when it comes to starting a blog. Here are the other courses I have on my radar (but again, the Blogging Blastoff is kind of a one-size-fits-all, so I would recommend that one, and am glad I did that first!)

Here are some awesome courses on my radar that are smaller investments or FREE!

Right now I am going through the Affiliate Blogger Bootcamp, which is a very detailed course about using affiliates to monetize your blog. It is a small investment, but filled with value.

  • How do you set up affiliate marketing?
  • How do I incorporate affiliate marketing?
  • What is an effective model for being successful with affiliate marketing?

It is SO detailed in answering all of these questions.

Increase Blog Traffic Courses

Affiliate Blogger Bootcamp- I’m in this one right now and it has SO MUCH info about how to be successful with Affiliate Marketing. Again, Blogging Blastoff covers Affiliate marketing, but this one is much more in-depth.

SEO Blogger Bootcamp Do you have your blog setup, but need help to drive more traffic? SEO has some tricks-of-the-trade to it. This is covered in Blogging Blastoff, but I have no doubt it will be detailed and very worth-it in this bootcamp course.

Pin Success Bootcamp Also next on my list. Did you know the majority of bloggers get the majority of their traffic from Pinterest? I am excited to do this course and learn some great strategies for making Pinterest drive more traffic!

10K Traffic Challenge– this is free and relatively easy. I’ve done this a couple times. Each month, a new challenge begins and you’ll have access to a private group and a way to connect with other bloggers to help each other’s blog grow. There is a step everyday to complete for 10 days to help your blog grow.

Start a Blogging Business 5 Day Course– I mentioned this above. It’s a great, free, simple way to start your blog and get your motivation going.

Get This Awesome Blogging Course

All the courses are great. I’d say my favorite has hands down been the Blogging Blastoff Course though. In order to be successful with affiliates, you need traffic. And you have to learn how to get traffic. But once you have traffic, you want to make sure you have affiliates! Blogging Blastoff covered all the moving pieces of getting a blog going. It was a goldmine of information for learning how to start a blog (and beyond!).

So that’s it! That is the blogging course to start a new blog, and various resources by Pete and Heather that I recommend to have a successful blog (and a good blogging experience!)

I know I have saved not only tons of time, but also tons of headaches by having all the information handed to me, in an organized manner, with each thing that is necessary for success. Especially the Blogging Blastoff! That was such great information loaded with steps and details into how to start a successful blog. (It is recommended that you do the WP Fast Launch first! That way your blog is set up and you can grow it from there. At the moment, Pete and Heather have a way for you to get WP Fast Launch for FREE! Check it out!)

    • Thanks! I was so grateful to have these resources. I started two blogs before and gave up soon after. This time, I actually found some guidance!

  1. Great tips mine would be you have to love it and be committed to your niche. So many bloggers start then rebrand and change directions which is very confusing to followers and only confuses an already saturated market.
