My husband and I have loved to travel since the day we were married. We try to visit lots of different places, and in doing so, we were always staying at different hotels. A decade ago, we didn’t really know much about sites for booking hotels. Wherever we went, we just picked a hotel and booked. Because we were always booking different hotels (not always part of the same chain,) we would sign up for “this” rewards program, and the next year we’d sign up for “that” rewards program with another hotel chain.
Let’s Jet, Kids! uses affiliate links. As an Amazon (and other networks) Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. It is no extra cost to you.
Over the years, we hadn’t saved enough hotel points with any rewards program, because we weren’t consistently using one chain or another.
That’s when I decided I would try something different.
There’s a lot of questions about the best hotel booking companies
- Which hotel booking company is best?
- What is the best app for booking a hotel?
- How do I get the best hotel discount?
I found all these answers in my research.
I started researching all the different booking companies, and I ended up forever using Hotels.com. Here’s why:Search Here for Hotels.com Best Hotel Deals!
Leader in Hotel Booking Industry
It says it all in the name: Hotels.com. Booking hotels is what they do! They have a great selection. I will mention that you can also put together flight packages and find “things to do” as well.
Book with Confidence
It sounds like a cheesy advertising line, but it’s true. Here’s why.
Since Hotels.com is a leader in hotel booking, they have tons of users, which means tons of reviews. I can easily type in a city I’m looking for and filter by price or rating. With so many reviews, I can make a informed decision based on what I’m looking for.
Our Experience with Support at Hotels.com
But here’s another reason I love Hotels.com:
(I’ll try and shorten this very.long.story.)
This past summer, we made plans to go to Mexico. Things were just opening back up in Mexico (COVID year), so we were excited to get out. We booked an awesome hotel at Hotels.com. Long story short…we called the hotel a few days before to check on COVID protocols/requirements, and they said “oh, we’re closed.”
We called Hotels.com and let them know. They had no correspondence from this hotel saying they were closed. They spent a long time on their end trying to figure out what was going on with this hotel. (The hotel kept going back and forth on whether or not they were actually open. Very frustrating.)
When it came time to go to the airport, the hotel still was very wishy-washy about whether they were open or not (why did no one AT the hotel not know if they were open or not??? I don’t know.) That was a bit stressful. So we got on the phone with Hotels.com again and explained we didn’t feel confident about this hotel. They sent us to their department for rebooking/re-accomodation, and right there on the phone transferred us to another hotel that we chose (that they knew WAS open). They did all the logistics and planning on their end and we arrived in Mexico at an AWESOME, new hotel.
So basically, when things don’t work out as you plan, Hotels.com takes care of you and does what they need to ensure you are happy.
Hotel Booking Rewards Program
I’d say this is the main reason I love and always use Hotels.com. As I stated at the beginning, when I use to book through each hotel individually, we never acquired enough rewards to actually earn anything because we used all different brands on hotel chains.
You must sign up (free) for an account with hotels.com. If you book enough nights within one year, you can move up to silver and then gold status, giving you extra perks. Some perks are free upgrades, discounts at the hotel (spa, restaurant, etc.), or late check outs.
We still use all different brands, except now we get rewards no matter which brand we use. With Hotels.com, you get one free night for every 10 nights you book and stay (rewards are given after you’ve actually traveled). We can book hotels easily through any brand, and still get rewarded! Here’s how the rewards work:
(You must have been active/completed a booking on your Hotels.com account within 12 months.)
Redeeming Your Rewards:
After 10 stays, you can redeem one night at the average value of your stays. So if you book stays at
Then the total is $2,850 for those 10 nights. The average stay was $285, so you will be able to book a hotel room for $285 or less for free! (*must pay taxes though. There is also a $5 booking fee, but you can get around that by booking in the app!)
If you go over the $285 (or whatever your averaged-out total is), you can just pay the difference.
We love this because we are able to stay in more affordable hotels of any brand, and still earn free nights.
Bonus Perk of the Rewards Program at Hotels.com
As mentioned earlier, you can move up in your status with your rewards account.
If you earn enough stamps within a year (remember, most hotels earn 1 Stamp per Night) then you are upgraded to a Silver Rewards member. As a Silver member, you get extra little perks when you book through hotels.com. For example, we have gotten $50 resort credits, a discount at the spa, a bottle of wine, and other things. Just for using Hotels.com for all our bookings!
And if you use it even more…you get upgraded to Gold!
Variety of Hotel Brands on Hotels.com
The other reason we think Hotels.com is the best booking agency is because they have SO. MANY. HOTELS to choose from. There are over 1,000,000 hotels around the world to choose from, and I’ve noticed that there are guesthouses as well. They have popular brands like Hilton, Marriott, and Wyndham, but they also have local, non-chain hotels across the world.
When you go to redeem your rewards, over a half-million hotels are eligible! (I’ve never had a problem getting what I wanted for my reward, so I can’t personally speak to what isn’t available!)

Ease of Use, and Getting the Best Hotel Discount
Go to Hotels.com, enter in the location you’d like to find a hotel at, and scroll through! Often, the top result will be a featured deal for a hotel in your selected location. I’ve often found this featured-hotel is at a deep discount of up to 50% off.
You can also enter a specific hotel name/chain if you prefer and the location in the search bar to find more specific results. I like to “sort” my results based on either price or rating and that is really helpful. Each result is filled with pictures and TONS of information on each hotel.
For example, when looking for a hotel in Mexico, I clicked on the result and could see
- Room options
- How many pools
- How many restaurants
- What activities were onsite
- How far different points of interest were
- How far from the closest airport
- How many rooms the hotel had (this was important cause we don’t like anything too crowded!)
- and much more!
Great Cancelation Policy
In a day when travel is very unpredictable, I want to know that I can cancel easily if my plans change. While canceling with an airline, I was on hold for hours. When I needed to cancel my hotel, I simply logged into my account and clicked “cancel”. It was that easy.
While you are researching and booking a hotel, it will say clearly if there is free cancelation. I’ve found that the majority of hotels on hotels.com have this booking advantage. It will also clearly state which date you need to cancel in order not to lose a dime! Often, the cancelation window closes 7 days before the reservation, but we’ve also booked where you can cancel by the day before. Make sure to check carefully.
The Best Hotel Booking App
The Hotels.com app is really easy to use. Sometimes I use it simply because I’m not near my computer. But it really comes in handy on the road when checking into a hotel. Every hotel we’ve been to already had our reservation ready to go (including our last-minute, same day reservation in Mexico!), so I’ve never had a problem having to prove my reservation.
But the Hotels.com app is really handy to search from or look up past and future reservations. It’s graphically designed in a way that is appealing. It is laid out in a way that is easy to use and navigate. You can see your rewards, reservations, look up hotels, and more on this app.
That’s why we love Hotels.com. It’s the best way to book hotels. It’s easy to use, you can save up rewards thru any brand/chain, and the customer service has your back.
Have you used Hotels.com before? What do you love about it?
